National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc.

Iota Chapter

On May 20, 2023, Founders’ Day, members of “Literacy Reading Centers” enjoyed spending the day completing their project. The project was to provide books, from an approved list to school libraries of kindergarten to second grades. The books selected told stories about African American heroes/sheroes, historically significant stories, how to build good character traits, lessons learned, etc. Chapter sorors voluntarily donated books from the list. Members from our Iota Chapter committee read, recorded using stand-alone video conferencing and collaboration platforms. Upon approval from the Atlantic City School District’s Superintendent, Dr. LaQuetta Small (also a member of Iota Chapter) the seven books were electronically distributed to the schools for use with kindergarten through second grade classes districtwide.

On this 100th year of celebrating the founding of our great organization, The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated our the committee members were delivering gift bags of books to schools. Pictures were taken with school administrators, sorors who worked in each school.  All schools were surprised about the gifts. A special treat was being photograph with an outstanding retired extremely active soror from the district who belongs to a sister chapter. It was an enjoyable experience.

Committee members are Lois W Lantz, Lynda V. Browne-Kidd, Jacqueline L. C. Brown, Joyce Sidibe, J. Darlene Beasley, Janida Newby, Danielle Newsome, and Nicole Williams
